Our Goal: Connect Madison students with questions to neighbors with answers during COVID-19
Neighbors Helping Neighbors
MMSD Volunteer Tutor Connection is not a tutoring service, but rather a way for neighbors to connect to help each other out. With Madison schools fully online this fall, some parents may not have the time, money, or expertise to help their high and middle school kids during a time where it may be harder to get one-on-one time with teachers. A group of concerned neighbors have decided to volunteer their time and expertise to tutor local students during one of the strangest school years in history. Stay healthy, stay safe, and ask for help when you need it.

NOTE: Madison families/students in districts other than MMSD are also welcome to sign up.
How it all started
As a Madison resident, I wanted to help my community during COVID-19, but I didn't have much money to donate. What I do have, however, is expertise. I knew that I could share the skills I've gained during my time as a graduate student at UW-Madison. I posted on a community facebook page offering free tutoring, and got a much larger response than I ever expected. I knew I couldn't fill the demand on my own, so I turned to my fellow grad students and their friends to volunteer as tutors. I believe every student deserves access to help when they need it, and I hope this site can help some students during what is sure to be an extra-challenging school year.
By neighbors, for neighbors
Don't be fooled by our fancy-looking website (it was free, anyway). We are not a non-profit, nor are we any kind of business. We are just a couple of folks who wanted to help our community during COVID-19. We ask for your patience and understanding when using this website.
We currently have plenty of volunteer tutors to keep up with demand, so please don't hesitate to sign up!
Connecting
When parents sign their students up for tutoring, their request will be made available to all of the people who have volunteered to offer free tutoring. Tutors will sign up to fill tutoring requests, and will contact parents directly to schedule a virtual tutoring session.
Help when you need it
This site is intended to help students get as-needed help, rather than regular weekly tutoring sessions. Please sign your student up to get help when they have a specific problem or concept they are struggling with. This is to help make sure we can help as many students as possible, despite only having a small number of volunteer tutors.
